How to Choose the Right Look That Reflects Your Style and Helps You Feel Confident

Creating your perfect fantasy photoshoot look should be exciting and stress-free. Most clients don’t already own fantasy-themed costumes—and that’s perfectly okay! I’ll help create or gather each piece needed to bring your vision to life.

Whether you want to go bold with your chosen theme or keep it more subtle, I can help with that.

1. ✨ Choose Your Style Direction
Your outfit is more than just clothing—it’s a powerful tool to help you feel confident and connected to the portrait experience. Everyday items you already own can absolutely work and often make you feel more at ease in front of the camera. When we incorporate something personal, it adds an emotional layer to your final images—like a visual keepsake tying your inner world to the fantasy theme.

If you’re unsure what fits with your chosen fantasy vision, that’s totally okay! We’ll talk through it together. I can guide you in selecting or borrowing items, and in some cases, I may even create or source specific pieces to add to my studio collection.

⚠️ Important Note: For fantasy portraits, I need at least two months’ notice before your session. This allows plenty of time to design, source, or fit any custom pieces. If a costume fitting is needed, we’ll schedule that in advance so everything is ready with time to spare.

Now let’s explore some of the general style directions you can choose from—or mix and match!

💎 Casual Glam Jeans (Calvin Klein Inspired)
Clean, minimalist, and effortlessly chic. Great for grounded, urban-fantasy looks with a modern twist.

👑 Super Glam Evening Gown
Elegant, dramatic, and full of shine—perfect for magical queens, enchanted nights, or ethereal goddesses.

🌿 Traditional Elegance
Timeless and simple, with soft, classic details. Ideal for fairy tales or historical and mythical inspirations.

2. 👗 Build Your Outfit Around Your Chosen Look
Here’s a styling guide to help you start visualizing pieces. Don’t worry if you don’t have these items—I can source or design them for the shoot.

And if you have unique props like your own wings, a Viking shield, or other costume pieces you love—bring them! These special details can make your session feel even more personal. If you’d rather not think about the details and prefer that I run with a theme or concept, that’s perfectly fine too. I’ll handle the design and set everything in motion.

A. Casual Glam Jeans
This is the one style you’ll need to source yourself. I can provide boot covers for fantasy looks like elves, fairies, or fur for Vikings.

Bottoms: Fitted or relaxed denim (straight-leg, mom jeans)

Tops: Simple solid tee or button-up (black, white, gray)

Layers: Leather jacket, trench coat, or cozy cardigan

Shoes: Stylish flats, boots, or sneakers

Accessories: Minimal jewelry, belts, or layered necklaces

B. Super Glam Evening Gown

Dress: Long, dramatic gown in silk, chiffon, or satin

Details: Sequins, beads, or lace embellishments

Jewelry: Statement earrings, layered bracelets

Shoes: Heels or elegant flats (comfort matters most)

Makeup & Hair: Glamorous and polished

C. Traditional Elegance

Clothing: Simple dresses, trousers, or blazers with clean lines

Colors: Earth tones, muted shades, or rich neutrals

Fabrics: Natural fibers like cotton, linen, or silk

Jewelry: Classic and minimal—pearl studs or gold chains

Shoes: Neutral flats or vintage-style heels

3. 🎭 Pick Your Fantasy Theme
Once we’ve talked about wardrobe, we’ll decide on your fantasy world. Here are a few ideas to inspire you:

High Fantasy: Epic, magical, and otherworldly—Elven royalty, enchanted forests, warrior queens.

Dark Fantasy: Gothic, moody, and mysterious—ruins, shadows, haunted castles.

Steampunk Fantasy: Gears, corsets, goggles, and vintage sci-fi vibes.

Mythology & Folklore: Characters inspired by gods, heroes, and legends.

Fairy Tale Fantasy: Whimsy, charm, and magic—perfect for dreamers and romantics.

Magical Portraits: Sparkling effects, glowing hands, enchanted books—anything with pure magic.

4. 🌟 Final Tips Before the Shoot
You don’t need a costume closet—if you don’t have the right pieces, I’ll help build or source them.

Comfort = Confidence: Wear what helps you feel amazing. If it’s itchy or too tight, it will show.

Complement, don’t copy: In group photos, coordinate colors and styles—no need to match exactly.

Trust the Process: Even if it feels a little silly at first, the camera will see the magic when you lean in.

If you’re unsure, send me photos or Pinterest boards that inspire you, or simply share the vibe you want to capture. Whether it’s bold or subtle, for the world, your family, or just for you—this is about showing how you feel on the inside and expressing the beauty or strength you want the world to see on the outside.

Let’s create something unforgettable, together. ✨
